World Textile Day 2009

World Textile Day Wales - 2009

All the World Loves Textiles

Our first World Textile Day at the Minerva Centre in Llanidloes, Wales was - we have to admit - a bit of a shot in the dark. Would textile enthusiasts travel to mid-Wales for a one-day exhibition supported by two expert lectures and a chance to fondle and buy pieces from our collections?

By the end of a very hectic day, we knew the answer. Of course they would!

It was such a fantastic surprise that looking back, it's hard to pinpint the highlights, but here goes.

Jim Gaffney's morning lecture was fascinating, as he put the spotlight on 'The Future of Hand-made Textiles'.

In the afternoon, after a frantic shopping session, Magie Relph took us on a personal journey - 'Fabric Hunting in Africa'.

And, throughout the day, visitors enjoyed an array of great home baking, courtesy of our hosts - the Quilt Association of Wales.

In short, a great day was had by all!
